Trog Transformation (The Pitt)
Mutations & FEV · Source: Fallout 3 The Pitt DLC in-game lore and terminal entries
Overview
Trog transformation is the final stage of the Troglodyte Degeneration Contagion in The Pitt, turning humans into blind, feral mutants. It is a slow, horrifying loss of humanity. The transformation defines the fate of The Pitt's slave population.
Origin & Mechanism
The transformation is caused by TDC, contracted through The Pitt's toxic air and water, especially around the steel mill. The disease progresses over months or years, with each stage marked by physical degeneration. Slaves forced to work in the most contaminated areas transform fastest.
Effects & Symptoms
Early stages bring skin lesions and impaired vision; later stages cause blindness, claw growth, and loss of higher cognition. Fully transformed trogs are aggressive, animalistic, and live in the ruins of The Pitt. The transformation is irreversible, with no known cure.
Wasteland Significance
Trog transformation drives The Pitt's brutal economy, where slaves are worked until they turn and then join the feral masses. The tragedy of the trogs fueled Wernher's rebellion and the search for a cure. The Pitt's trogs are a monument to the wasteland's cruelty.
Notable Appearances
Trog transformation appears throughout Fallout 3's The Pitt DLC. The transformation is also a central moral dilemma in the DLC's story.
