Mr. House

Characters & NPCs · Source: Fallout: New Vegas — Lucky 38 terminal entries and dialogue with Mr. House

Overview

SUBJECT: Robert Edwin House, founder and chief executive of RobCo Industries, sole proprietor of the New Vegas Strip. Born June 25, 2020; current chronological age approximately 261 years. Current status: extant as a consciousness hosted on the Lucky 38 mainframe, with a biological body maintained in a life-support chamber.

History & Background

A pre-war industrialist and polymath, the subject predicted the Great War with high confidence and constructed the Platinum Chip, a delivery mechanism for upgraded securitron firmware, as the centerpiece of a plan to defend Las Vegas from nuclear attack. The defense system functioned; the chip did not arrive in time, and the subject's orbital interception of inbound warheads succeeded at the cost of the chip's delivery. Entombed in the Lucky 38, the subject spent decades rebuilding Vegas into an independent economic power, licensing the Strip's three families and enforcing order with securitron patrols.

Personality & Traits

Behavioral profile: calculating, sardonic, and contemptuous of organic incompetence. The subject evaluates all actors by utility and frames New Vegas as a technological triumph over the wasteland's squalor. Maintains long-term plans for spaceflight and resource extraction, treating the Courier as a useful instrument rather than an equal.

Role in the Wasteland

Controls the Lucky 38, its securitron army, and the governance of the Strip. The subject commissions the Courier to recover the Platinum Chip and, if permitted, activates the upgraded securitron network to defend Vegas from both the NCR and the Legion at the Second Battle of Hoover Dam. The Courier may kill the subject or destroy his network, enabling alternate endings.

Notable Appearances
