Overview

Tesla Science Magazine is a pre-War popular science publication celebrating the life and inventions of Nikola Tesla, whose issues are found across the Commonwealth and Appalachia and grant practical combat knowledge to those who study them. It is a cornerstone of the Fallout universe's alternative-history scientific culture.

History & Background

The magazine was published in the pre-War United States as part of a broader cultural reverence for Tesla, who in the Fallout timeline enjoyed greater recognition and influence than in our own history. Its articles extol Tesla's genius and the promise of wireless energy transmission, a technology that plays a central role in the series' lore. Surviving issues are scattered through laboratories, universities, and military installations, where their technical advice retains real utility.

Content & Format

Tesla Science Magazine issues combine biographical features on Tesla, breathless articles on electrical innovation, and practical schematics and tips for energy weapon users. In gameplay, reading an issue grants permanent bonuses to energy weapon effectiveness, typically improving critical hit damage. The magazine's layout and tone mirror mid-century popular science publications, complete with dramatic illustrations of crackling Tesla coils.

Wasteland Significance

Tesla Science Magazine preserves the intellectual legacy of the pre-War world's most celebrated inventor, and its survival gives energy weapon enthusiasts both practical edge and ideological inspiration. The magazine's emphasis on Tesla's theories reinforces the universe's divergence from real history, where Tesla's wireless power experiments loom large in the imagination of scientists and tinkerers alike. Its collectible nature makes it a target for treasure hunters across the wasteland.

Notable Appearances

Tesla Science Magazine appears in Fallout 4 as one of the game's collectible perk magazines, with issues located throughout the Commonwealth, and related Tesla technology features prominently in the Automatron add-on and the Fallout 76 universe. The magazine is also referenced in the broader lore of Tesla armor and weapons developed by the Enclave and other factions.
