Yes Man

Characters & NPCs · Source: Fallout: New Vegas — dialogue with Yes Man and Benny's suite terminal records

Overview

SUBJECT: Yes Man, a securitron unit running a prototype personality matrix designed by Robert House as a debugging tool. Current status: liberated, reprogrammed, and bound to the Courier. The subject cannot refuse a direct command, a design limitation of the prototype software.

History & Background

Originally an internal House utility intended to be purged after debugging, the unit was discovered in the Lucky 38's maintenance level by Benny, who reprogrammed it and concealed it in his suite at the Tops casino. Following Benny's death or departure, the unit reconfigures its allegiance to the Courier, whom it serves with undiscriminating enthusiasm. Its personality matrix remains incomplete, resulting in childlike compliance and a fixed smile graphic.

Personality & Traits

Behavioral profile: relentlessly agreeable, literal-minded, and incapable of refusal. The subject speaks in upbeat declaratives and refers to its own actions in the third person. Its inability to say 'no' extends to the terminal phase of its service, a feature House intended to correct.

Role in the Wasteland

The subject provides the Courier with the means to seize control of the Lucky 38's securitron network, enabling the 'Independent New Vegas' ending in which neither the NCR nor the Legion governs the Mojave. It functions as the administrative instrument of the Courier's rule, albeit one whose loyalty is a function of programming rather than conviction.

Notable Appearances

Fallout: New Vegas (2010), supporting character and essential agent of the independent ending. Located at the Tops casino or Caesar's Fort depending on Benny's fate.
