Gulper
Creatures & Mutants · Source: Fallout 4: Far Harbor
Gulpers are massive mutated salamander-like amphibians endemic to the fog-shrouded Island (Mount Desert Island, Maine) off the New England coast. These creatures typically measure eight to twelve feet from snout to tail and possess a physiology that is unnervingly elastic — gulpers can distend their bodies significantly, swallowing creatures nearly their own size and accommodating prey that would be impossible for a creature with normal anatomical constraints.
This 'gulping' ability is their most terrifying adaptation. A gulper will attack by rushing prey, seizing it in powerful jaws, and — if the target is small enough — swallowing it whole in a single, convulsive motion. The distension of their throat and abdomen during this process is dramatic and has been described by surviving witnesses as 'watching something get eaten by a bag of wet leather.' Against larger prey, gulpers use their powerful tail as a bludgeoning weapon, delivering crushing blows that can stagger even power-armored targets.
Gulper hide has unique elastic properties that make it valuable for crafting — when properly treated, it can be fashioned into form-fitting armor that provides reasonable protection without restricting movement. Gulper innards contain potent enzymes capable of rapidly breaking down organic tissue, and some wasteland chemists have experimented with these compounds for various alchemical applications. The New Gulper variant, distinguished by its pale, almost gelatinous flesh and enhanced regenerative capability, presents a particularly resilient adversary.
