The Omertas

Factions & Armies · Source: Fallout: New Vegas (2010), quests 'Talent Pool' and 'The Omertas'

Overview

The Omertas are one of New Vegas's three ruling casino families, running the Gomorrah and the Strip's darkest trades: smuggling, prostitution, and the violence that keeps both profitable.

History & Background

The Omertas' origins are murky even to themselves, but their grip on Gomorrah is iron. Under Big Sal and the scarred enforcer Nero, the family runs the Strip's vice openly while plotting quietly with powers outside the city — including Caesar's Legion, which sees the Omertas as a knife to hold at New Vegas's throat.

Details & Timeline

2281: the Omertas' criminal network stretches from Freeside's streets to the Legion's camps. When Cachino — a mid-level soldier with a conscience — uncovers the family's plan to smuggle weapons and open the Strip's doors to the Legion during the battle, he turns to the Courier. The player can expose the conspiracy, crush the family, or let the betrayal stand, deciding whether Gomorrah serves Caesar or falls in the coming battle.

Wasteland Significance

The Omertas control one-third of the Strip's power structure, and their treachery nearly hands New Vegas to the Legion. Their fate demonstrates that the city's glitter hides a rot that reaches all the way to the top — and that the war for the Mojave will be won or lost in back rooms as much as on the dam.
