General Atomics Mr. Handy

Technology & Robotics · Source: Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Fallout 3

Overview

The Mr. Handy is General Atomics International's flagship domestic robot, a three-eyed, multi-armed automaton designed to serve as a household butler. Its iconic trio of eye stalks, hover-capable chassis, and articulate claw arms made it a pre-war status symbol among the middle and upper classes.

History & Development

General Atomics produced the Mr. Handy for decades before the Great War, marketing it as the ultimate home assistant. Thousands of units were in service by 2077, and the model line was later adapted into the militarized Mr. Gutsy for the U.S. armed forces. The General Atomics factory and Galleria still feature heavy Mr. Handy presences in the wastes.

Technical Specifications

Each unit is powered by an internal fusion plant and propelled by a gyroscopic hover system, giving it surprising speed and stability. Its three multi-jointed claw arms can perform fine manipulation, and a built-in voice personality module allows natural conversation. Later models include arm-mounted buzzsaws and flamers, blurring the line between butler and combatant.

Wasteland Usage & Variants

Surviving Mr. Handies range from loyal companions like Codsworth to feral units that attack anyone approaching their decaying homes. Variants include the military Mr. Gutsy, the snow-clearing models seen in Appalachia, and numerous homemade Automatron conversions.

Notable Appearances

The Mr. Handy is a centerpiece of Fallout 4, where Codsworth is among the first robots encountered and the General Atomics Galleria features prominently in Fallout 76. The robot line also appears throughout Fallout 3.
