Railway Rifle
Weapons & Gear · Source: Fallout 3 (The Pitt), Fallout 4, Fallout 76
Overview
The Railway Rifle is a pneumatic weapon that fires steel railway spikes with enough force to pin enemies to walls. Its distinctive choo-choo sound announces its arrival.
History & Development
The Railway Rifle originated in pre-war industrial applications before being weaponized in the ruins of the Pitt. The Railroad later adopted it as a signature weapon, manufacturing and distributing it to agents. Its simple, brutal design is beloved by Commonwealth freedom fighters.
Technical Specifications
The rifle launches standard railway spikes via a compressed air or explosive charge, delivering massive single-target damage. Spikes frequently impale targets, causing additional damage and a grisly spectacle. It is single-shot with a slow reload but devastating power.
Wasteland Usage & Variants
Railroad operatives use the rifle for close-quarters strikes, while raiders appreciate its stopping power. Unique prototype variants in the Pitt and craftable versions in the Commonwealth expand its availability. Its ammo can be scavenged from any railway line.
Notable Appearances
The Railway Rifle appears in Fallout 3's The Pitt DLC, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, and is central to Railroad aesthetics in the Commonwealth.
