Plasma Rifle
Weapons & Gear · Source: Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76
Overview
The Plasma Rifle is an energy weapon that fires superheated bolts of plasma, melting armor and flesh alike. It is the signature heavy weapon of the pre-war military and post-war factions alike.
History & Development
Plasma technology was developed pre-war by military researchers and refined through programs tied to REPCONN and General Atomics. The Institute later created its own plasma weapons, while the Enclave fielded advanced plasma casters. Post-war, plasma rifles became the standard energy weapon of advanced factions.
Technical Specifications
The rifle converts plasma cartridges or microfusion cells into searing bolts that deal extreme damage on impact. It is less accurate at range than laser weapons but far more destructive per hit. The weapon can be modified into plasma flamers and sniper variants.
Wasteland Usage & Variants
Brotherhood of Steel paladins, Institute scientists, and Enclave remnants all favor plasma weapons. Standard, Institute, and experimental variants differ in color, damage, and availability. Plasma weapons are among the most sought-after energy arms in the wastes.
Notable Appearances
Plasma rifles appear throughout Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 4, and Fallout 76, including the Institute's distinctive white plasma weapons.
