Overview
Point Lookout is a swampy peninsula on the Maryland coast, featured in the Fallout 3 add-on of the same name. Once a tourist destination, it is now a treacherous backwater of mutated swampfolk, tribals, and hidden pre-war secrets.
History & Background
The peninsula was home to a coastal resort and a Chinese espionage operation during the war, including a hidden submarine and a smuggling network run by the smuggler Blackhall. Decades later, the eccentric Dr. Calvert — a disembodied brain — plots from his ruined mansion to expand his reach, using the hallucinogenic Punga fruit to control minds.
Geography & Layout
Dense marshes, boardwalks, and rural homesteads stretch across the peninsula, with the Calvert Mansion dominating a bluff. The swamp is easy to get lost in and home to swampfolk, anglers, and other giant mutated creatures.
Wasteland Significance
Point Lookout delivers a horror-tinged detour from the Capital Wasteland, blending Lovecraftian atmosphere with the series' retro-futurism, and its Punga fruit mechanics became a memorable quirk.
