The Strip

Locations & Ruins · Source: Fallout: New Vegas

The New Vegas Strip stands as a beacon of pre-War opulence and post-apocalyptic ambition in the Mojave Wasteland. Prior to the Great War, Robert House, the enigmatic proprietor of the Lucky 38 casino, utilized his vast intellect and resources to safeguard much of Las Vegas from nuclear annihilation, deploying surface-to-air missiles and laser turrets. While some outlying areas suffered, the core of the city, including the Strip, was largely spared. For nearly two centuries following the war, the Strip remained largely unsettled, a testament to its former glory awaiting revival.

Around 2274, Mr. House initiated his grand plan to restore Las Vegas. He deployed his advanced Securitron army to negotiate with local wasteland tribes, offering resources in exchange for their cooperation. From these negotiations emerged the 'Three Families': the Omertas, who operate the Gomorrah; the Chairmen, who run The Tops; and the White Glove Society, managing the Ultra-Luxe. These tribes were transformed, adopting the sophisticated, albeit theatrical, aesthetics and mannerisms reminiscent of pre-War Las Vegas.

By 2281, the year the Courier arrives, the Strip is a heavily policed, vibrant hub of gambling and entertainment, starkly contrasting with the surrounding irradiated wasteland. It is protected by a formidable wall and patrolled by Mr. House's Securitrons. Although the New California Republic (NCR) established a presence in the Mojave and secured control of Hoover Dam, they never gained full authority over the Strip, maintaining only a limited military police presence through a negotiated deal with Mr. House. The Strip's dazzling neon lights, operational elevators, and clean water systems are a direct result of House's foresight and technological prowess, making it a unique and highly contested territory.
