Overview
Vault 0 is a secret vault built beneath the Rocky Mountains, featured in Fallout 2, housing the Calculator — a vast supercomputer intended to manage human society. It was part of a grand experiment in centralized control.
History & Background
Vault 0 was designed as a control vault of a different sort: instead of sheltering people, it housed the machinery and staff to run experiments on the other vaults. The Enclave later used the Calculator's network for their own purposes, including experiments to control human thought across connected communities. The player can infiltrate the facility and confront the Calculator, whose robot guardians defend its secrets.
Geography & Layout
The facility is a vast underground complex of server banks, power plants, and robotic assembly lines, buried deep beneath the mountains and accessible through a hidden entrance. Its scale dwarfs ordinary vaults.
Wasteland Significance
Vault 0 expands the vault mythos into a continental conspiracy, connecting the vault network to the Enclave and introducing the Calculator as one of the series' great artificial intelligences.
