The Pitt
Locations & Ruins · Source: Fallout 3 add-on The Pitt (2009), Bethesda Game Studios — in-game world, terminals, and dialogue
Overview
The Pitt is the ruined industrial city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, featured in the Fallout 3 add-on of the same name. Its steel mills still churn, powered by slave labor, producing valuable ingots that drive a brutal raider economy.
History & Background
Pittsburgh was a steel town before the war, and its mills proved too valuable to let die. The warlord Ishmael Ashur carved out a kingdom in the ruins, using slaves captured from the surrounding wasteland to work the mills and produce steel ingots. Ashur and his lieutenants rule with an iron grip while workers suffer the toxic, irradiated atmosphere of the industrial riverfront.
Geography & Layout
The city is divided between the downtrodden slave quarters, the industrial mills along the river, and the elevated Haven where the rulers live. The ruined streets are infested with trogs, mutated creatures born of the region's heavy radiation and pollution.
Wasteland Significance
The Pitt offers a harrowing look at post-war labor exploitation and the moral compromises of rebuilding civilization, and its story is a fan-favorite example of the series' gray morality.
Notable Appearances
