Overview
Vault 3 is a functioning vault in the Mojave Wasteland, featured in Fallout: New Vegas, whose residents reopened contact with the surface — with tragic results. It is now the headquarters of the Fiends raider gang.
History & Background
The vault's dwellers lived in relative safety until they opened their doors to trade with outsiders. The Fiends, a raider gang of chem-addicted psychopaths, slaughtered the residents and took over the vault, using it as their base of operations. The player can assault the vault to complete the quest Three-Card Bounty, killing the Fiend leaders and freeing the vault.
Geography & Layout
The vault is located east of Boulder City, its entrance guarded by Fiends; the interior retains the layout of a functioning vault, now repurposed as a raider den, complete with chem labs and a makeshift throne room.
Wasteland Significance
Vault 3 is a cautionary tale about trust in the wasteland and serves as one of New Vegas' most satisfying combat dungeons, tied directly to the NCR's bounty quests.
